Narrative: Join Lori Stole and me for a paddle down Crooked River to Juniper Creek. We'll launch at Crooked River Day Use Area and paddle north towards Round Butte Dam. About 4 miles downriver, we can turn east toward the Dam and stop at the floating bathroom, if needed. If the group desires, we might also paddle to the southeast corner of the bay to see a waterfall, if it's falling. Afterward, we'll head back out of the bay and continue through Metolius Canyon to Juniper Creek on the south shore of Lake Billy Chinook. This is a scenic route through broad canyons with steep, rocky cliffs. We'll search for a suitable place to take out at Juniper Creek before heading back to our launch. Total distance will be about 10-12 miles, depending on our choices along the way. Total trip time will be approximately 4-5 hours. Restrooms and parking are available in the day use area. A Waterway Access Permit is required and may be checked by local forestry personnel.
