It’s time to leave the Shire. We shall embark on a Hobbit trip on the Willamette, from Milwaukie Riverfront Park to George Rogers Park and possibly farther to scenic Hogg Island, then return from whence we came. We’ll save Mt. Doom in the Black Land of Mordor for another day.

Why is it a Hobbit trip? Because we’re going to take multiple breaks to stretch, admire the views, and eat snacks. Did you know that Hobbits have six (some say seven) meals a day? I suggest you finish your Second Breakfast before we launch, but we can have Elevenses and Luncheon as we travel. Perhaps some of us can grab Afternoon Tea afterwards, and if you need Dinner, then there is always pizza at Lucky Lab that evening at the OOPS monthly meeting.

Here is a typical Hobbit mealtime schedule:
7:00am – Breakfast
9:00am – Second Breakfast
11:00am – Elevenses
1:00pm – Luncheon
4:00pm – Afternoon Tea
6:00pm – Dinner
What about second breakfast?

We’ll meet at Milwaukie Riverfront Park at 9:00 a.m.and plan to launch around 9:45 a.m. to catch the very last of the incoming tide. We’ll be paddling upriver against the tide and current, so it will be slower going than our return trip, but we’ve done it before and we can do it again!

Parking is free, but it can be limited. If you don’t find a NON-trailer spot at the boat ramp, plan B is to drop off your boat and park across the street in the business area. Single vehicles are NOT allowed in the trailer parking spots. You can launch from the dock, ramp, or rocky beach. Bathrooms are available.

We will observe the Four Ps: Please Plan to be a Pod Participant! If you are a lone wolf, this is not the trip for you. This will be a relaxed pace trip; SUPs are welcome.
